You’re probably familiar with the musical genre called Americana. It‘s been described as “contemporary music that incorporates elements of various American roots music styles, including country, roots-rock, folk, bluegrass, R&B and blues”. Well-known American musicians who are associated with this style are Steve Earle, John Prine, Lyle Lovett, and Ry Cooder.
Well, there’s a wealth of great music in this country, too, and it’s being honoured with the Canadiana show, ‘North of 49’. The material is contributed by the likes of Canadian music icons Ian Tyson, Bruce Cockburn, Leonard Cohen, Joni Mitchell, Ann Murray, Neil Young, Gordon Lightfoot, Willie P. Bennett, Blue Rodeo....the list goes on. Each artist performing in ‘North of 49’ has selected the artists and songs that speak most powerfully to them and are offering their own interpretations with the backing of their musical friends.
This exciting collaboration will make you a proud believer in Canadiana culture.
